Life In Singapore

Thursday, June 13, 2002

Right now Life in Singapore is about preparing for our trip to the U.S. We are so excited. Mandy keeps going around saying "mama and papa...rrrairplane". I'm sure she doesn't realize exactly WHAT we are going to be doing. But now she says, "mama, papa, house" as I've told her we are going to be staying at both mama and papa's homes. We are about 75% packed. We are (me) getting a little nervous about the flights, as always. I'm trying to maintain and just concentrate on all that has to be done before leaving. Luckily David will be with us on the first flight to Taipei so I should be ok. By the time the girls and I board the second flight to San Fran we will hopefully be tired and will just be thinking about getting buckeled up so we can fall asleep.

Amanda is napping right now - we had our "last" playgroup this morning before heading out for 2 months.. Katie joined us but is now up in Woodlands playing all afternoon at a friend's. Later this afternoon she has her "last" swim class for the summer. Some good news today is that one of my friends from playgroup has post-poned her re-patriation and will stay here through the fall. That's about it...this is my last Blogger for a while. For those of you interested, I will log in while in the states and update on our summer. Ciao for now!

Katie is no longer a kindergartner! Wow…has this 9 months flown by. I never would have imagined what an incredible experience Katie would have here at the American School. I hope that she will remember it her entire lifetime. The memory book that she made in class will hopefully help. It is an album of pictures, art projects, and mementos from special events throughout the year. She also has a mandarin journal, a song and poetry journal, and an art journal. I’m really so very proud of her. She certainly has come along way from the frustrating and challenging first months here. We look forward to 1st grade! Katie has enjoyed her first day “off” of school by having a friend come over and play. We went swimming and the girls played all afternoon. Amanda just followed along and fit in pretty well.

The three of us girls look forward to David coming home from Germany. He has been gone since last Saturday night. It was a tough week to have him gone but then again, are there any good ones? I really missed having him here to share all the emotions I was feeling about Katie finishing school. I really got emotional at times! I think it was especially hard because on the last day of school you are also saying good-bye to friends that are re-patriating, and will not return after the summer Holiday.

We have 6 days to go before we leave for the U.S. I’ve already started packing but there are a lot of things to do to prepare. The first 3 weeks there will not be anyone here, so we will be having someone check up on the place. Once David arrives back here on July 6, I will have a schedule for Lis to come by and clean, do laundry, and maybe even cook up some spicy Laksa for him….(NOT to be confused with “doing the Salsa” FOR him)!

So…I guess the Bay Area is cooking up some warm weather for us? No problem, we will fit right in. I was just hoping for some good old Northern California fog. I guess all of you are just about now as well? See you all soon!
